Auto Transmission Electrician Mechanic Sunshine Coast

Auto Transmission ElectricianAutomatic Transmission Sunshine Coast

A mechanic with the knowledge of Automatic Transmissions and understanding the electrician side, supplies an important resource for those living on the Sunshine Coast. As mentioned in our previous article the are many Gearbox and Transmission issues. Sometimes the lack of communication from the client and not asking the right questions can also be a problem to be able to solve any issues.

Do You Tow Anything with Your Vehicle?

Anytime a vehicle owner  comes in with a transmission they want replaced. Knowing the causes of what affected their old transmission is a must. The customer mentioning the speedboat should cause the mechanic to ask about the weight of the boat and the vehicle’s capacity for towing such weights.

Mechanic Sunshine Coast

The mechanic on the Sunshine Coast will carry out a thorough inspection to find what is the problem. If the boat’s weight exceeded the towing capacity even by a little, that may be enough to cause the automatic transmission to falter. Towing too much weight can cause the fluid in the transmission to overheat. This can lead to a degradation of the clutch linings or the torque converter. This will start to cause slipping in the transmission.

If the overheating continues, then the shift solenoids or valve shutters may be affected. The result is that the gear shifts will become unpredictable, harsh, and erratic. It does not take much in terms of overheating to cause serious damage to the transmission. This may include non-OEM seals and gaskets in the transmission to be compromised and start to leak.

But this may not be the only reason the automatic transmission is failing. While it does seem obvious, there may be other factors involved.

Auto Electrician

An Auto Transmission Electrician will ask if the engine and fuel management system are still the same from the factory or have changes been made? The addition of performance chips, enhanced tuning, and the like can alter the overall performance of the engine which will affect a new transmission. Keep in mind that the vehicle owner may not be aware of such changes, especially if the vehicle was purchased used from another owner who made the changes.

Engine Management Program

Before performing a diagnostic check and putting an engine management program in place you should always start with asking the owner if any modifications have been made to the engine, fuel system, or software. And whether they do or do not know, it pays to use a scan tool to check out and verify the calibration number. Compare this information to the vehicle’s VIN to see if there are any differences. It may be that the engine and transmission are not compatible unless changes are made, or a new transmission matches the new calibrations of the engine or fuel system.

In addition, you should check for any modifications to the exhaust system, wheel sizes, and final drive ratios. Add to this the mechanical modifications to the engine to better understand the power it generates.

Making the Modifications

Once you have obtained this information, you can then inform the transmission rebuilder about the specific characteristics. This will allow them to make any modifications to the transmission itself so that everything matches as closely as possible. This includes how the vehicle is used which may include towing heavy objects.

With all this, there are still steps to take which include getting all the electrical connections right and using the proper nuts and bolts. It is generally best to err on the side of caution and use bolts, nuts, and parts that will take an excess load.

When a gearbox and automatic transmission gets changed out by a Sunshine Coast mechanic, the first thing they do is gather all the information to carry out the job. To be able to replace the automatic transmission successfully, the qualified auto electrician needs this knowledge for the replacement to be successful.
