Solar Panels Caravans 4WD & RV: Sunshine Coast Auto Electrician
Solar panels and accessories are now becoming common items on caravans, RV’s and 4WD vehicles, and at Harmac Automotive on the Sunshine Coast, we specialise in the installation of those products.
If you love camping, you want to ensure that you have power when you need it, and a fixed panel on top of the roof of your caravan or RV can ensure that happens.
At Harmac Automotive, we can install a reliable system that fits your needs and your budget. If you have never thought about using solar panels on your rig, consider the benefits: abundant power, no noise, no moving parts, and no additional costs in the future.
Let’s take a moment to talk about the simplicity of solar power and how it might be perfect for your caravan, motorhome, or RV.
How does solar power work?
It’s actually quite simple, as the solar panels installed on top of your vehicle collect energy from the sun and store them in batteries that can be used as a 12 volt source or converted into 240 V when needed.
Why is solar power on your vehicles a good idea?
The most obvious advantage of using solar power on your boat, caravan, or other adventure vehicle is that you will not need to be dependent on mains power.
If you recently purchased a new caravan, chances are it will have a 12V or 24V battery system included, with those batteries charged by the alternator in your vehicle, or via a 240V battery charger.
What that means is that you have the ability to charge those batteries when you are connected to the grid, such as when you plug in at the RV park.
That’s great news if your entire trip is going to be spent at a park where you have access to electricity, but what about when you want to get away from it all in a remote location? You can run the engine to charge, or perhaps use a generator, but who wants all that noise when you are trying to enjoy your peaceful surroundings?
The advantages of Solar Power
With solar power, you can have a fully charged battery without all the noise and fuss. The panel are lightweight, easy to install, and cost less than you might imagine.
Caravans, motorhomes, and boats are the perfect location for flexible solar panels, as mounting structures are not required. Installing the panels can be done with VHB tape or an adhesive sealant.
There are also canvas backed solar panels available, and those can be folded into a small satchel.
Questions you may want to ask when purchasing solar products:
- “Is the product durable enough for your specific needs?”
- “Will the weight of the product keep you within your towing weight maximum?”
- “Will it fit into your available space?”
- “Will it work with your existing equipment?”
- “Will it be able to handle your power needs?”
