Alcohol Ignition Interlock Installation

If you have lost your licence due to a drink driving offence, installing an alcohol ignition interlock may be required before you can legally drive again.

At our Maroochydore workshop, Harmac Automotive provides professional interlock installation and servicing for drivers participating in the Queensland Alcohol Ignition Interlock Program (AIIP). Our experienced technicians can install and service approved interlock devices so you can meet program requirements and return to driving safely.

What Is an Alcohol Ignition Interlock?

An alcohol ignition interlock is a breath-testing device installed in a vehicle that prevents the engine from starting if alcohol is detected in the driver’s breath.

Before starting the vehicle, the driver must provide a breath sample. If alcohol above the preset limit is detected, the vehicle will not start.

These devices help ensure drivers participating in the program remain alcohol-free when operating a vehicle.

The Queensland Alcohol Ignition Interlock Program (AIIP)

The Queensland AIIP is designed to reduce drink driving by requiring certain offenders to only drive vehicles fitted with an approved interlock device.

Drivers may be required to participate in the program if they:

  • Drive with a blood or breath alcohol concentration of 0.10 or higher
  • Refuse a breath or blood test
  • Commit dangerous driving while affected by alcohol
  • Commit multiple drink driving offences within five years
During the program, the interlock device records breath test data to ensure drivers comply with the conditions.
